30 Day Makeup Challenge: Day 4

Day 4 - Do you like wearing foundation? If so, what’s your color and favorite:

Yes!!!  I love wearing and trying out new foundations.  Some women switch up their perfumes on a regular basis…I like to change up my foundation routine :)

MAC NC40-NC45 (right now I’m a NC40 because I’ve been back living in the city without the sun, lol)

My recent favorites have been MAC NC40 - Pro Longwear (for long work days), Matchmaster in #5 (for oily feeling skin days), and Mineralize Satinfinish (for those ‘good’ skin days).

30 Day Makeup Challenge - Day 3

Favorite Makeup Brand:

My Favorite makeup brand is MAC Cosmetics (and not just because I’m a MAC makeup artist).  It carries everything from basic consumer makeup products to industry products as well.  The Back to MAC recycling program is great and the VIVA Glam AIDS Fund is a fabulous way to buy makeup and make a difference.  I love that MAC is more than ‘just’ a makeup company and is contributing to the world in a positive way.

I have actually worked as a makeup artist for 3 of the above brands, so I have favorite products from each line.  Make Up For Ever also offers a lot of products that are great for professionals working in HD and underwater.  The Illuminators from NARS are absolutly beautiful for completing bridal makeup and for highlighting the face.  There are so many other amazing brands out there that is hard to narrow it down.

Halloween Makeup Idea?  This is my makeup interpretation of “La Llorona.”  My good friend Araceli was kind enough to have her eyes shut for this look.  This is a full body paint and airbrushing, eyes were sealed shut with a out of kit wax build up over the eyes.  The first pictures is a test run of the special f/x work over the eye on myself.  I’ll have the rest of the images on my website once it is up and running. I love creating character makeup!

21 Shows in 2 Days!!!!  Vancouver ECO Fashion Week - I worked both days doing makeup and don’t think I’ve ever done so much makeup in so short a time.  It was great and I was thrilled to be there to support one of my favorite designers/friend ‘Downtown Betty.’  Two personal highlights were, the commercial I worked on for Downtown Betty was shown at the start of the show and I got to do the full makeup for one of the only two male models for the final Jeff Garner closing show of Eco Fashion Week.

Doing makeup for Vancouver Eco Fashion Week. These are just a few of the looks from day one where I worked on so many shows last night.  It was a lot of fun backstage, seeing the designers work, and catching up with friends in the industry, models, photographers, other makeup artists, etc.  I’m just now packing my set bag and getting ready for day #2.

Photo Shoot:   This is a look behind the scenes of a photo shoot I did for AQ Magazine.  I did the makeup and hair for the magazine cover and the feature story.  I love working on location and meeting new creative people.

Bald Cap fun!  So the male model/fellow makeup artist, Jay, is not actually bald…I just made him appear bald by applying a bald cap and painting.  The process takes a lot longer if the model has long hair, either way the hair has to be properly prepped before applying the cap.

On the set of “I’m With Desperate.”  Beautiful and talented actresses, (left to right) Aga and Leah.  I helped with the hair for Aga and did all the makeup & hair for Leah’s character.  Both girls were so delightful and beautiful to work with.  I was especially loving the great colour of Leah’s hair and was happy with the end result of their characters’ over all look.  I have more behind the scenes photos that were taken on set but don’t want to show too much that may give away scenes from the TV show.  Got my fingers crossed that it gets picked up by a network :)

I recently did makeup and hair for a new TV show “I’m With Desperate,” directed by Kerry James.  James is perhaps best know for his work on the TV show Heartland.  I did makeup and hair, some of the funniest parts of the day was making the actors look ‘sickly.’  The makeup team consisted of myself, Brooke, and Natascha, both great artists.  We worked for 2 days and did the first two episodes of the show, hopefully it gets picked up. The direction, acting, and writing for this show is amazing, and everyone on set had such positive energy.
